5 Primark Essentials

Something a bit different. But change is good, right?

Since I know the shop inside out (no, seriously), I thought I’d share with you my top five Primark essentials. We’re not talking about the fluctuating fashion pieces, the style steals and the outfits to die for.

Here, we’re talking about the bare necessities, the essentials which are anything but basic. The Pièce(s) de résistance, if you will.

1. The False Nails

It’s no joke, these babies are INCREDIBLE. When I want something a little more temporary than acrylics, these essentials land straight in my basket every time. And believe me when I say, they last a hot minute. Seriously, their staying power is a force to be reckoned with. I’ve tried every brand of false nail you can possibly think of (some of them rather pricy, may I add), and these top them all. They don’t flake off individually, and the glue provided doesn’t show up in patches on the nails (because no one likes a sticky situation). If that hasn’t bowled you over, might I mention that the nails come in a wide variety of shapes and colours, matte and gloss, so there’s something for everyone. And priced at a mere one squid, you really can’t go wrong.

2. The Hair Bobbles

If you thought the false nails were strong, wait until you wrap your hair up in one of these bad boys. Okay, I know, hair bobbles aren’t exactly the most exciting of purchases. But let’s face it, they’re a necessity. Whether it’s a sweaty gym session or a late night revision blast, if it’s a bobble you need, Primark stock the ones you can rely on. You can get about 50 in a pack, so there’s no chance of running out completely when the odd few go walkabout. They’re easy on the scalp, too. And by that, I mean it doesn’t feel like you’re ripping your entire head of hair off when it’s time to take the bobble out. Plus, they’re only a pound. Next time you’re in Primark, drop a pack of these in your basket.

3. The Ankle Socks

Who doesn’t love a good pair of socks? I’m definitely a sucker for a cute pair of ankle socks to wear with trainers or boots. Whether it’s a frilly number, or the classic shoe liner you’re after, Primark have you covered. And I can certainly vouch for the comfort factor of these lovelies. They’re non-itchy, they’re long-wearing, and they aren’t hideously priced as they are at other stores (cough, Topshop, cough). Why look anywhere else?

4. The Fairy Lights

Have a gander in the Home section of any Primark store, and you won’t be disappointed. Unless you aren’t thrilled with delightful accessories, that is. For me, it’s very important for my bedroom to be light and bright and fabulous. The space simply feels incomplete without a string of lights draped over a headboard or wardrobe. And Primark’s selection of room lights keeps me coming back for more. Looking for a simple glowy white set? Yup, they’ve got it. Fancy a pink hue? Sure. Want to plaster your entire wall with fluorescent flamingo lights? Primark’s your answer. Prices start at around two pounds, so if you’re looking to add a little sparkle to your setting on a budget, look no further.

5. The T-Shirt Bras

Man, I’ve never known comfort like it. I hate splashing out on everyday wear bras, only to be greeted with discomfort and regret when they’re put to use. But Primark have revolutionised the everyday T-shirt bra. They’re so incredibly lightweight that you get all the support without the tightness and digging. And if you think that aesthetic is sacrificed by comfort when it comes to these essentials, you would be entirely wrong. The undergarments come in lots of cute designs, from polka dots to florals, and the styles are constantly updated with different colours and patterns, so you can pick and choose to your heart’s content. Oh, and prices start at just two pounds (I know right!). I stock up every season.
